Sciatica

What is Sciatica?
Sciatica refers to irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the back of the leg. It’s often caused by spinal issues or muscle tension and can lead to sharp, shooting pain along the nerve’s pathway.
Symptoms of Sciatica
- Sharp, burning, or shooting pain in the lower back, buttock, or leg
- Numbness or tingling in the leg or foot
- Muscle weakness in the affected leg
- Pain that worsens with sitting, bending, or coughing
- Reduced mobility and flexibility in the lower back or hips
- Sensation changes along the sciatic nerve pathway
How Osteopathy Can Help
At Forme, we look beyond just the sciatic nerve — we assess your spine, pelvis, hips, and posture to identify and treat the underlying source of nerve irritation.
Using gentle hands-on techniques such as:
- Releasing muscle tension in the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings
- Improving spinal and pelvic alignment to relieve nerve pressure
- Restoring healthy movement in the hips, sacrum, and lumbar spine
- Addressing disc-related restrictions or joint stiffness that irritate the sciatic nerve
- Supporting postural balance to reduce strain on the lower back and pelvis
- Enhancing circulation and fluid movement to reduce inflammation and promote healing
- Correcting compensatory movement patterns that aggravate nerve pain
- Supporting nervous system regulation to ease pain sensitivity and tension
Osteopathy helps relieve sciatica by decompressing the nerve, restoring spinal mobility, and supporting full-body balance.
