TMJ / Jaw Pain

What is TMJ Pain?
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain refers to discomfort in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. It can affect your ability to chew, speak, and even rest comfortably. TMJ dysfunction can develop from teeth grinding, poor posture, stress, or trauma to the jaw or face.
Symptoms of TMJ / Jaw Pain
- Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw
- Pain when chewing, yawning, or opening the mouth wide
- Headaches or earaches
- Facial pain or tightness
- Neck or upper shoulder tension
- Limited jaw movement or stiffness
How Osteopathy Can Help
At Forme, we assess the whole body to uncover the root causes of jaw pain, not just treat the symptoms. We use gentle, hands-on techniques to release muscle tension, improve joint movement and reduce pressure through the jaw and neck.
Using gentle hands-on techniques such as:
- Releasing tight jaw, face, and neck muscles that contribute to TMJ pain
- Improving alignment and movement of the jaw joint to reduce strain
- Relieving tension in the upper neck that affects jaw function and stability
- Addressing poor posture and upper body mechanics that put pressure on the jaw
- Reducing stress and muscle holding patterns linked to teeth grinding or clenching
- Supporting the nervous system to promote calm and reduce jaw-related tension
- Promoting lymphatic drainage and blood flow to decrease inflammation in the jaw area
- Restoring balance through the whole body to improve jaw movement and reduce reoccurrence
Osteopathy relieves jaw pain by gently releasing tension, restoring balance in the neck and face, and improving movement and alignment in the TMJ.
